Invitation to WEEM-2026
The WEEM series represents a set of international scientific conferences of a special type designed for the in-depth analysis of the state-of-art and intensive discussions of key issues related to the research and applications of various electrochemically active systems.
During its earlier period the scope was centred at electrochemistry of electroactive materials which can be repeatedly charged and discharged electronically, such as electron-conducting and redox polymers, mixed-valence transition-metal inorganic solids, solid ion conductors revealing a sufficient electronic conductivity, in particular certain "superionic conductors" and metal-cation conducting (e.g. Li+ or Na+ intercalation) systems as well as various composite (e.g. polymer-inorganic nanoparticles, organic-inorganic, etc.) materials.
During a more recent period their scope has been extended to include other electrochemically-active materials, i.e. to the systems where electrochemical phenomena are determined by specific properties of the electrode material. As a result, the actual scope of WEEMs includes (besides electroactive materials) recent developments of both fundamental aspects and applications of various traditionally important areas as electrochemical transformations of the electrode material, or electrode's modification for its catalytic applications, etc.
A deep understanding of complex mechanisms of these electrochemical phenomena requires bringing together researchers actively working in these fields in the form of WEEM workshops, in order to provide them with an opportunity to combine their presentations of original results with extensive exchange of opinions with the audience in the course of intensive informal discussions.
The WEEM meetings already organized in Russia (Moscow, 1995), France (Dourdan, 1997), Poland (Poraj, 2000), Germany (Bad Herrenalb, 2003), Russia (Repino, 2006), Poland (Szczyrk, 2009), Hungary (Szeged-Hódmezővásárhely, 2012), Germany (Bad Herrenalb, 2015) and Bulgaria (Borovets, 2019), fulfilled the above expectations. Significant progress in this research area during the latest period makes it actual to organize the next workshop of this series, this time in Bellamonte, Italy, especially in view of an extensive break due to the COVID-2019 pandemic and later international problems.
The conference venue has been chosen due to numerous advantages of this variant, in particular, convenient facilities to reach the international airport of Venice (or a suitable railway station) for the further local transportation (see below), location of the conference venue in an exotic place inside high mountains, very moderate prices for a five-day stay, brilliant opportunities to visit top touristic attractions of the Northern Italy (Venice, Padua, Verona, Milano, Bologna, etc.) on the way towards the conference, or on the way back, etc.

Scope of the Conference
Contributions related to all aspects of electrochemically active materials, from their synthesis, characterization and fundamental aspects of electrochemical processes to potential or actual applications are welcome.
The scope includes (but is not limited to) the topics:
· All electrochemical aspects of various electroactive materials, in particular:
Synthesis and characterization of conducting/conjugated and redox polymers, organic and inorganic as well as composite/hybrid electroactive systems. Reactions at electrodes modified by electroactive materials or their (nano)composites. Applications of electroactive materials: catalysis and electrocatalysis, electroanalysis, sensors and actuators, membranes, energy storage, batteries and supercapacitors, solar energy conversion, electrochromic and nonlinear-optic materials, nanosciences and molecular electronics etc, in relation to fundamental properties of the used electroactive material.
· Recent developments in various areas of electrochemically-active materials:
Dissolution or/and deposition of electrode materials. Electrochemically based sensors. Electrochemistry of nanomaterials. Electrode-surface modification. Catalysis of electrochemical reactions, etc. Presentations on both fundamental aspects of these materials and their applications are invited.
Participation of young researchers and
scientists from interdisciplinary areas is strongly encouraged.
Program of WEEM-2026 will include keynote,
oral and poster presentations. About a half of the overall sessions' time will
be used for questions and discussions after each oral presentation, with accent
towards hot topics and unresolved problems of the area.
Official language is English.
Location
The
conference will be held in Bellamonte (https://www.hotelsancelso.com/en/), a resort on the Southern slope of the
Italian Alpes, inside the picturesque Dolomite region, famous for its beautiful
rocky mountains, bright sun, blue sky and fresh mountainous air.
Our intent is to ensure the accommodation
of all participants within close proximity to the conference center, with the
entire hotel space being occupied by them. Such arrangement is chosen to
facilitate intensive and fruitful discussions between participants during both
the sessions and the meals, in combination with enjoying a beautiful
mountainous landscape of Bellamonte ("Beautiful Mountain").
Detailed
description of the transportation (with special buses for participants) from/to
the airport "Venice Marco Polo" as well as from/to Mestre-Venezia, accommodation (lodging and meals) at
the conference place, social program for participants as well as touristic
attractions of the area will be provided in the 2nd
circular.
The 2nd circular will be sent to the potential participants of the meeting who will provide us in time with their Application Forms (see below).
Participation fees and accommodation
Similar
to all preceding WEEM conferences, there will be a total participation fee per person, covering all local expenses which includes the workshop
organization, its website and bank account costs, local taxes, conference
program and other materials for distribution to participants, rental of
conference equipment as well as halls for oral sessions and poster exposition, transportation
from the airport or the railway station to Bellamonte and back, lodging and
meals during the conference (for five nights), coffee breaks, welcome party,
conference dinner, and excursion.
This total participation fee is anticipated to be around 800 Euro for
participants staying in single rooms while it
decreases to about 550 Euro per person for those sharing
double rooms. Exact values of the total participation fees and its
payment methods will be specified in the 2nd circular
since they depend both on the total number of participants (including
accompanying persons) and on their distribution between single and double rooms.
In view
of both a special character of the meeting (a workshop)
and the limited number of available rooms, the
maximal number of possible participants is restricted
by these factors, being also dependent on
the numbers of requests for single and double/triple rooms.
If the
number of applications exceeds this upper limit, the Organizing Committee will
have to make a selection among the candidates, taking into account both the
scientific merits of submitted presentations and the dates of application
(preference for earlier submissions).
Because
of this situation it is recommended to pass the pre-registration, i.e. to
submit your Application Form (see below) as early as
possible.

In view of a limitation to the number of available rooms for participants, the Organizing Committee will be grateful for receiving a reply on your attitude to participation in WEEM-2026 to the addresses:

Your preliminary information on this matter (e.g. positive/negative/may be/uncertain reply, single/double/triple room preference, accompanying persons, etc., may be with further comments) will be useful for our preparations. Please send it to the above addresses as soon as possible.
The next step of pre-registration is obligatory for participation in WEEM-2026: each participant has to provide us with his/her filled in Application Form (file "Application Form_Template" is attached to the circular; it can also be copied at website: https://weem2026.atmeka.com/), with keeping in mind its submission deadline (see below).
Each participant can submit up to two presentations; only one of them may pretend for the oral form.
The participant who intends to make a presentation at the workshop should prepare an abstract of each presentation, i.e. a concise description of the presentation at WEEM-2026, in order to include it into the Application Form (from its page 2).
Recommended size of the abstract itself: about one page. Besides, a
few figures may be placed at the end of the abstract; copies of relevant
publications may be attached. Total volume of the Application Form file should
not exceed 5 MB.
Content of each abstract will be considered by the Scientific Committee of WEEM to choose in which form this presentation will be delivered at the meeting: as one of the oral forms, or as a poster.
If the participant does not plan to make a presentation, then it is sufficient to fill in page 1 of the Application Form.
Name of this file containing the Application Form with (or without) abstract(s) should be:

where "<author's name>" in the filename should be replaced by the first and last names of the author in Latin letters, e.g. John Smith_oral+poster.doc, or John Smith_two posters.doc, etc.

If an author does not submit his/her extended abstract, the concise version of the abstract (without attached copies of publications) will be included into the Conference Proceedings.
